Police told student protesters at the University of California in Los Angeles to disperse or face arrest. Violent clashes between demonstrators broke out at the university early on Wednesday as a pro-Israeli counter-demonstration attacked a pro-Palestinian encampment, using sticks and fireworks to breach a makeshift barricade. Gavin Newsom, California’s governor, said the police’s “limited and delayed” intervention was “unacceptable”.
