SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Savannah Small Business Week starts Monday. Events supporting small businesses have been happening all day at Enmarket Arena.

Small businesses in our area are interviewing until 6:30 p.m. Earlier, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce held its Small Business Forum. These are just a few of the many events planned for local entrepreneurs this week.

At the forum, there were all sorts of panels, workshops and networking opportunities for business owners. Before the forum, City leaders kicked off Small Business week at city hall this morning.

“Small businesses provide freedom, they provide that life, that liberty, the pursuit of happiness. That American dream is still living and thriving, and it all begins right here with this celebration,” said Nick Palumbo, Alderman, District 4.

Events throughout the week include the mayor’s small business conference, a ‘reverse trade show’ here at Enmarket Arena and a special ‘procurement breakfast’ where business owners can learn info on working with the city.

All of these events are focused on supporting a major source of jobs in our area.

“By caring for our small businesses by providing resources, opportunities for networking and opportunities to do business with the city, we are taking care of our largest employer, and when they’re healthy, we’re healthy,” said Marronde Lumpkin-Lotson, Assistant Director, Economic Development, city of Savannah.

While this week is dedicated to uplifting our small businesses, supporting the community is a year-round opportunity.

“It is not just this week, it is 365 days a year that we support economic empowerment and mobility like we’ve never seen before. And it begins starting small… but we’re going to go big,” said Palumbo.

The job fair is going on for a couple more hours so come on out! Later on WTOC will be live with more from how the businesses here are celebrating their week.
